Mablethorpe is best known today as a popular seaside resort in Lincolnshire, on the east coast of England. It is in the East Lindsay district and makes up part of 'The Fun Coast'; together with Skegness, Chapel St. Leonards, Ingoldmells, Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe. The history of Mablethorpe is known to span many centuries, records of the Fitzwilliam family of Mablethorpe Hall date back to the early 14th century. Part of the resort was lost to the sea in the 1540s. A popular seaside resort in the 19th century, it was much loved by the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson.
