In 1903 Letchworth became the first Garden City in the world. This was the dream of Ebenezer Howard, who desperately wanted to decrease poverty in Edwardian society and strongly believed that a blend of the best features of town and country, and all profits from the town being used to help ordinary townspeople was the solution. He founded The First Garden City Heritage Museum in a beautiful 1907 designed house, which is open all year round, except Sundays, and charts the story of Letchworth from it’s Garden City origins.
