Lying close to the River Churnet the town of Leek in Staffordshire is a pretty little town on the edge of the Peak District. Economically it has throughout its history relied on farming and textiles, in the 18th century it principal manufacturing industries were connected with the silk trade and products from here included buttons, swing silk, ribbons and handkerchiefs. Leek is built on the slopes and top of a hill amidst some of the most picturesque moor and dale scenery and it is for this reason that it is known as “The Queen of the Moorlandsâ€.
