Lauder is a small historic market town in the central Scottish Borders region situated next to the Leader Water on the western edge of the Lammermuir Hills, 22 miles south of Edinburgh. Lauder was granted Royal Burgh status in 1502. The town has a wide central market place and much of the medieval street plan remains. The Romans used Lauder 1800 years ago as a link between northern England and central Scotland Lauder is a popular tourist destination surrounded by beautiful scenery, there are two hotels; one is a coaching inn built c1700, self-catering accommodation, B&B’s, two camping and caravanning sites, shops and amenities.
