The Isle of Arran is in the Firth of Clyde, 14 miles from the North Ayrshire coast and 4 miles west of the Kintyre peninsula. Arran is 20 miles long and 10 miles wide. From Gaelic Arran means ‘peaked island’ with the mountains standing to the north-side, the highest peak being Goat Fell at 874m tall. Arran was not part of Scotland until the Treaty of Perth, 1266 and was granted a Royal charter in 1503. Arran is known as ‘Scotland in Miniature,’ routed in Celtic myths and legends with the best that Scotland has to offer including a selection of golf courses, castles, Heritage Museum, distilleries, outdoor activities, scenery and gourmet food.
