Hawick is a large town in the Borders region of Scotland, situated north of Langholm and south of Selkirk. The historic town dates back to the 12th century with the remains of the Hawick Castle excavated at Hawick Motte near the town centre. Hawick has suffered a turbulent history with most of its buildings dating back to the 19th century as earlier buildings were destroyed during battles with the English. Hawick is famous for its textile industry with fine woollens, cashmere and tweeds. Traditional weavers still operate in the area and the factory outlets ensure the town is a popular tourist destination.
