The property was the former residence of Sir William Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. He lived here from 1890 until his death in 1911, and wrote his later operettas in the Library-now the Hotel bar. Set in 40 acres of gardens and woodland, the hotel is only 12 miles from Central London.
