The village of Halvergate, though only a couple of miles off the A47 Acle to Norwich road, sits on the edge of marshes that stretch eastwards to the horizon. At one time the village was a seaport on the giant estuary now long gone, though Braydon Water, the lake three miles distant formed by the Bure, the Yare and Waveney meeting to the west of Great Yarmouth, gives an idea of what once was. The bridge on the road from the Stracey Arms to the village affords a great vantage point to enjoy the view for those pressed for time, but it is far better to walk the area.
