Goodrich is a quaint village in the Wye Valley off the A40 between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye and bordering the Forest of Dean in Herefordshire. This village is small, growing to the south of Goodrich Castle, which stands a 1 mile away from the village, on an important crossing point of times gone by on a ridge above the river. The castle is a fine example of a building dating back to the 11th century. In 2007 a new visitor shop, centre and café opened – this includes an exhibition charting the castle’s history from 11th century origins to its fall in 1646, with Civil War artefacts from the site.
