The town of Falkirk is a short drive from the north east of Glasgow, and north west of Edinburgh. At the heart of Scotland, its pulse beats with the ebb and flow of the Forth and Clyde, and Union canals. The junction of these waterways was crucial to cementing Falkirk’s reputation as the iron casting capital of Scotland, a reputation forged in the blast furnace of the industrial revolution. Iron and steel, the girders of heavy industry; these formed the buttresses of the town’s economy, and its canals providing an arterial link from the east and west of the country.
