The village of Exton is a small village situated in the picturesque rural county of Rutland. In 2001 the population of the village was just below 600. Exton (meaning 'Ox farm' was recorded in 1185 (as Exton Park) as being a 'wooded farm, enclosed for hunting deer'. At the time it was Rutland's largest park; covering 1,500 acres and with a herd of 500 deer. The avenue of trees leading to the Double Lodge Gatehouses at the entrance to Exton Park is still known today as the "Queen of Bohemia's Ride".
