Exeter has been inhabited for approximately 2000 years through every significant period of English history. Traces of each period are still present today despite a quarter of the City having been destroyed during the Second World War. Founded by the Romans it is now a thriving Cathedral and University City, surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the sea.
The current Exeter Guildhall building in the High Street dates from 1330, although records show a Guildhall existed on the same site at least as far back as 1160.
