Ewloe is a small town in the County of Flint on the outskirts of Chester with easy access to the North Wales coast making it popular with its residents. Ewloe was the scene of an important battle. Henry II had sent his troops from Saltney Marshes to a battle with Owain Gwynedd, Prince of North Wales. The English troops were ambushed here in Ewloe and according to records of the time many of the assailants were mercilessly slaughtered and the few that did escape managed to report back to the main army the terror they had encountered.
