The village of Etwall in Derbyshire lies about six miles west of Derby on the road leading to Uttoxeter and has been a settlement since the time of the Domesday Book, the village is believed to have been named after the Saxon king Eata. Throughout its history it was simply a small rural village but then in the mid 20th century the population trebled as a result of the post war boom in housing. The village is dominated by St Helens Church, despite a period of “restoration†in the early 18th century the church today does retain some of its early architectural features.
