Erdington is to be found to the north of Birmingham in the Midlands, and has been a settlement since before Saxon times. Today many of the routes through the town are still in existence, Kingsbury Road and Chester Road were important routes for the trade that was carried on in the area. The family name of De Erdington goes back to 1166 however by 1467 the family died out and their tomb can still be seen today in Aston parish church. Erdington has throughout its history been very much a rural area, up until the 18th century it consisted of around 40 farms and had a population of 700.
