Derbyhaven, a small fishing village at the south-east tip of the Isle of Man, sits on a sheltered bay with shallow tidal waters - ideal for windsurfing, water-skiing, angling and sailing. Yachts and motorboats add colour to the harbour as they bustle in and out of what was, in the 17th Century, the island's main fishing port. With the decline of its kippering activities, Derbyhaven's inhabitants engaged in other industries. John Murrey's Smelthouse, an 18th Century ruin, still stands on the road to Langness, while the remains of a kiln used in the 1800s can be seen on the opposite shore.
