Cumnock is a historic market town in East Ayrshire in the south-west of Scotland situated where the River Glaisnock meets the Lugar Water. Awarded burgh of barony in 1509, the town has evidence of covenanting history with many graves and memorials as testament. A famous resident is said to be William Wallace with his home in Glen Afton. The town grew in the 1800’s with its coal-mining industry and the production of the delicate finely crafted Cumnock snuff-boxes; beautiful small decorative plane-tree wooden boxes.
