Crowland is an ancient town set on the banks of the Welland River, in the county of Lincolnshire, which is home to just over three thousand six hundred people. It nudges the borders of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire and has a fascinating history which dates back many centuries. A group of monks founded an Abbey here in the 870, although it was later sacked by Marauding Danes, and suffered a fire, but was later re-built. Today visitors can still see the skeletal ruins of the Abbey which was dissolved by Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th Century; the poignant ruins surround the beautiful surviving church.
