The village of Crowcombe lies under the Quantock Hills in Somerset. It is approximately five miles from the Bristol Channel coastline and eight miles from Taunton. Crowcombe has a population of 500 and is a typical picturesque English village. The village was first documented under the name of 'Cerawicombe' by Aethulwulf of Wessex in 845 AD, when the local manor belonged to Glastonbury Abbey. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Crawcombe. In medieval times the village was the scene of many markets and fairs, being on an important junction of the road between Taunton and Bridgewater Bay.
