Located around 8 miles south of Builth Wells and around 12 miles from Hay in Wye the small farming community of Crickadarn is to be found nestling in the hills. This is an ideal location for those who enjoy the outdoor activities of walking or mountain biking as there are miles of quiet bridleways and footpaths to take advantage of. The village itself is well served however by its neighbour, Erwood, where there are some local amenities such as pubs, shop and post office. Of local interest is the local church of St Mary dating back to around the 13th century, it is suggested that in 1914 Sir Clough Williams Ellis (of Portmeirion fame) reconstructed the sanctuary, rebuilt the South wall of the nave and installed to the west an oval vestry window, balcony and fireplace.
