Coupar Angus is a traditional Scottish town located in east Perth and Kinross on the fringes of the county of Angus. It lies in the Valley of Strathmore on the south bank of the River Isla. A stream here joins the river and divides the town in two; this was formerly the boundary between Perthshire and Angus. Coupar Angus is steeped in history with many interesting buildings including, The Cistercian Abbey built in 1164, founded by King Malcolm. The gateway is all that remains of the abbey, which was burned down in 1559 during the Reformation.
