Cottisford is a hamlet and parish in the north-eastern corner of Oxfordshire, about six miles north of Bicester and four miles south of Brackley. It is part of Lark Rise country taken from the ‘Lark Rise to Candelford’ books by 19th century local girl Flora Thompson, the daughter of a stonemason of Juniper Hill. She was born in the hamlet in 1877 and educated at Cottisford village school. Cottisford appears as Fordlow in the books. The village of Cottisford lies on the banks of the Crowell stream, where there was once a ford.
