The village of Clapham sits at the very edge of the Dales National Park, and though it is only 16 miles from the coast of Lancashire at Carnforth, and 20 from Kendal in Cumbria, it is in the county of North Yorkshire. Clapham is a pretty settlement, with some solid stone cottages and a pub, The New Inn, that has been providing a stopping place for visitors since it was built as a coaching inn in 1776. Visitors wanting a quiet stroll will enjoy the village itself, but those with a more demanding appetite for exercise will find plenty nearby to interest them.
