Clanfield is a small village in Oxfordshire, 4 miles south of Carterton, and close to Black Bourton and Bampton, on the edge of the Cotswolds. There are two village pubs. The Clanfield Tavern on Bampton Road, built in 1610 and originally named The Masons Arms, and The Plough Hotel on Bourton Road. This was originally built as a farm or dower house in the 16th century, but due to its proximity to Radcot Bridge (one of the oldest crossings of the River Thames), became an inn providing accommodation for travellers.
