Cheddar is a large village at the foot of the Mendip Hills in Somerset. A steep gorge, Cheddar Gorge, is the largest in England and inks the village to the Mendips. The twisting narrow road that leads up the gorge had to be closed some years ago due to the constant threat of landslips. There are several large and unique Sites of Special Scientific Interest around the village including Cheddar Reservoir and Cheddar Wood. By far the largest is called Cheddar Complex and covers 441.3 hectares (1,090.
