Burrowbridge is a small attractive village on the banks of the Parrett River in the County of Somerset, and is home to just over five hundred people. It's surrounded by picturesque countryside in the heart of the Somerset Levels and has a fascinating history which reaches as far back as Neolithic and Roman times. The village is dominated by the impressive Burrow Mump which commands the skyline and is where the Saxon King of burnt cake fame, Alfred, took refuge when Viking Invaders arrived. The Mump saw further activity when Royalist troops came here during the bloody Civil War in 1645.
