Broxton lies around 11 miles south of Chester in the rolling countryside of the Cheshire Plains, in the hills around Broxton there are a number of disused sandstone quarries, the sandstone from which is to be found in many of the local buildings around Broxton. Together with the sandstone that was used for construction there was also sand quarried here and this was used for cleaning purposes, but in the main the area has been a small settlement relying on local agriculture. In nearby Bickerton evidence of copper mining dates back to the late 17th century and The Old Royal Oak at Broxton was renamed The Coppermine, containing memorabilia and pictures relating to mining.
