Bridge-of-Allan is a town in Stirlingshire in Scotland situated on the Allan Water in the wooded countryside below the Ochil Hills three miles north of Stirling. There is evidence of a settlement in the area dating back to the Bronze Age with the cairn of Fairy Knowe on the Hill of Airthrey which was excavated in 1868 revealing two burials, one in a stone cist. The town was a popular spa resort during the Victorian era with the discovery of spring water believed to have health giving properties; regular visitors included authors Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens.
