Brent Knoll is a Somerset village that lies at the foot of the Knoll of Brent. The name means 'Beacon Hill' in Old English and the area has had human settlement since at least the Bronze Age. Brent Knoll is also the site of an Iron Age hill fort, with multiple ramparts, unbroken save for the main entrance. It is in the area of the Somerset Levels, an area of wetland in central Somerset. Prior to the draining of the Somerset Levels, Brent Knoll was an island, known as the Isle of Frogs. Legend has it that one of King Arthur's knights, Ider son of Nuth, came to the Mount of Frogs to slay three giants.
