The pretty white cottages of Braithwaite huddling beneath the looming Grisedale Pike and Causey Pike, offer a comforting view to travellers, be they on foot bound for some of the best walking in the Lakes, in the car motoring between Keswick and Cockermouth, or even on the C2C cycle trail. Braithwaite sits at the start of the Whinlatter Pass that rises to over 1,000 feet above sea level, offering views across the two lakes the village is near – Derwentwater to the south east, and Bassenthwaite to the north, with daunting Skiddaw beyond.
