Braemar is a historic village in upper Deeside, west Aberdeenshire in Scotland situated 50 miles north of Perth and 60 miles west of Aberdeen. Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have written his famous novel ‘Treasure Island’ whilst staying in Braemar in1881. Braemar dates back to the reign of Malcolm III (1057-1093) with the remains of Kindrochit Castle lying on the east bank of the Clunie Water. Known as the eastern gateway to the Cairngorms, Braemar is surrounded by magnificent mountains, designated National scenic areas and abundant with Scottish wildlife; it has been a popular Highland tourist resort since 1852 when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought the Balmoral Estate nearby.
