Bo’ness is a town in Scotland situated on the south bank of the Firth of Forth, 2 miles north of Linlithgow and 5 miles east of Falkirk. The town’s full name is ‘Borrowstounness’, meaning ‘Burgh town on the Ness’, ness being the promontory which the harbour was built c1400 to export the locally mined coal. Bo’ness received its burgh charter in 1668. A Roman settlement dates back to cAD142 with the remains of a fort in the Kinneil Estate and traces of the 37 mile Antonine Wall, built by the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius.
