Way back in 142 to 144AD, the Romans under Emperor Antoninus Pius were the first to inhabit Bearsden, constructing the Antonine Wall to assist in his subjugation of the Scots. The Romans failed, and now only wall and a bespoke Roman bath-house remain. But in the here and now, the residents of Bearsden are the ones prospering, in an affluent suburb boasting its fair share of millionaires who share Pius’ high opinion of the area. A six-mile commute to Glasgow’s city centre, Bearsden is an ideal place for the upwardly mobile, and is a popular place for Glasgow residents to bring up a family.
