Barrhead is a town in East Renfrewshire in Scotland situated 7 miles south-west of Glasgow on the Leven Water at the edge of the Gleniffer Braes. Famous people born in Barrhead include author Christopher Brookmyre and comedy actor Gregor Fisher who starred in the hit TV series ‘Rab C. Nesbit’. The name Barrhead comes from a farming term, with ‘Barr’ being the furrows ploughed into the field to prepare the soil for growing crops and the ’head’ would refer to the location of the homestead, at the ‘head of barrs’.
