Banchory is a town in Royal Deeside, Aberdeeshire, Scotland, situated 16 miles west of Aberdeen on the north bank of the River Dee. Banchory is known as the ‘Gateway to Royal Deeside’ surrounded by picturesque scenery and attractive hills including the Cairn o Mount standing at 450m high. Banchory is an ancient settlement where St Ternan is said to have founded a monastery during the 5th century, two early Christen Cross-Slabs survive near the site of the old church. North of town is the Hill of Fare, the site of the Battle of Corrichie in 1562.
