The idyllic village of Ballintoy looks out over some of the most awe-inspiring scenery on the North Antrim Coast. Dominated by a striking bright white parish church, the village lies in the shelter of a hill, and its harbour, some way below, is reached by a narrow road presenting a succession of hairpin bends. Of great interest on this road is a house called "Bendhu". Built completely by hand by one man over 17 years, this astonishingly shaped home was featured on the BBC's "Coast" series. Ballintoy's small limestone harbour, cliffs, caves and beach are beloved of local artists who can often be seen at easels, hoping to capture the magnificence of the Atlantic waves as they rush around Rathlin Island, Sheep Island and the smaller islets that rise from the sea in dark basalt formations.
