Ardgay is a village in the Sutherland area in the northern Highlands of Scotland, situated 40 miles north of Inverness at the entrance to Strathcarron, at the head of the Dornoch Firth. Ardgay sits to the south of the village of Bonar Bridge. To the north of Ardgay stands Carbisdale Castle, now a youth hostel, was once the site of the historic Battle of Carbisdale was fought in 1650. Strathcarron was one of the inland areas affected by the Highland Clearances in the 1800s, where people were evicted from the land to make room for sheep.
