Arbroath is a former Royal Burgh situated on the North Sea coast 17 miles north-east of Dundee, it is the largest town in the region of Angus. Arbroath is a popular holiday resort and traditional fishing port, complete with harbour built in 1839 and picturesque seafront. Burgh status dates from 1178 when William the Lion founded the Abbey. Royal Burgh status was awarded in1599 courtesy of James VI.
