Ampthill is an ancient Market Town, set within a rural backdrop in Bedfordshire that’s home to 6,580 people. The town has many elegant Georgian buildings and a Market Square with a clock tower. Henry V111 was a frequent visitor in his day when he came for the Deer Hunting, he stayed at a castle that’s sadly no longer around, although the spot is marked by a stone cross. An interesting interlude is a visit to the 14th Century church of St Andrew, or perhaps on a grander scale Woburn Abbey is a magnificent 17th Century building that stands majestically in 3,000 acres of Deer Park, the sumptuous State Rooms has an impressive art collection including Canaletto.
