Alloa has been the County town of Clackmannanshire in Scotland since 1822; it is situated 7 miles east of Stirling on the north bank of the River Forth. The settlement dates back to medieval times with the Alloa Tower built in 1363. The Tower is one of the largest tower houses in Scotland, it has a dungeon, a first-floor well and a collection of Mar family portraits and silver, it was restored in the 1990’s and is open to the public. During the 18th and 19th centuries Alloa developed as a port and was a major brewing centre.
