Lying just to South east of the centre of Birmingham Acocks Green is one its oldest and most important suburbs. Originally named after the Acocks family who built a large house in the area some 500 years ago and first mentioned in the Yardley Parish Register in 1604 . Originally it was three hamlets located on the Warwick Road, Flint Green, Acocks Green and in the middle of the two Westley Brook. These other smaller hamlets were eventually swallowed up to become Acocks Green. In the mid 19th century the Birmingham to Oxford railway line opened and soon the area was becoming fashionable, equal to the likes of Edgbaston.
